Crandall Peak / Deer Creek OHV is in the Stanislaus National Forest off Hwy 108 in California.
I spent two days riding there with my friends Lewis Bosson and Tommie Payne...
Lewis and I left San Francisco at noon and rolled into camp 3.5 hours later, no one around :)
We wasted no time unloading the bikes and heading out to explore, this was Lewis's first day back on a small dirtbike since he was a kid, but thanks to his track experience and kicking over his KLR in the dirt, he was fast into the action...
Next morning...
And off to ride...
We headed back to camp at noon to meet Tommie who was coming up from the Bay, the 3 of us loaded the bikes with extra fuel, Tommie prayed and we took off in search of good trouble...
We came to a locked gate and slid under it...
When we realized there wasn't enough fun to be had, we slid back...
Then we found this, an old rail track used for hauling things up the mountain, it begged to be ridden, the only challenge was jumping over the rollers for the cable, and doing long hill climbs on railway ties... (a shot from above)-
On my attempt, everything went well until I had to wheelie the roller at the top, I hit it and bounced back...
I rolled back down and Tommie gave it a go...
Nope. So we ventured onto a loose dirt and root climb next to it, it was not pretty or easy, and Tommie's bike almost exploded in coolant...
At the top I found this little friend-
Luckily, it was a midget...
Next we searched for some single track. We found a long technical ridge ride with lots of rocks. We rode it for well over an hour, Lew really impressed us by always being right on our tails...
Finally we headed back to the river to cool off...
A great trip and definitely a spot to return to.

We found a good variety of riding, fast fire roads and technical single track. The only surprise was cows, on the single track, with cow bells, running away from us like we were the devil.
We ended the day at the river, a nice way to wash off the dust...
